WHAT HAPPENED AT SUPER BOWL 2007?

During an owners’ meeting that was held on September 17, 2003, Super Bowl XLI was awarded to Miami, after a hard-fought campaign against Tampa, Phoenix, New York City, and Washington D.C.

Super Bowl XLI was played between the AFC’s Indianapolis Colts and NFC’s Chicago Bears on February 4, 2007, at the Dolphin Stadium Miami to decide which team would be crowned champions of the 2006 football season.

The Colts emerged triumphant, beating the Bears by 29-17.

Noteworthy for:

  • Super Bowl XLI was the first ever Super Bowl to be played in the rain.
  • The game coverage was watched by around 93.2 million people, making it the fifth highest viewed television broadcast in US history.
  • Prince’s halftime show increased viewing figures to 140 million, and his performance won him a large amount of critical acclaim.

Super Bowl XLI did not get off to a great start for the Colts, and the Bears achieved the then earliest score in Super Bowl history when, just 14 seconds into the game, Devin Hester completed a 92-yard run to score a touchdown. By the end of the first quarter, the Colts they were trailing 14-6; however, over the course of the next two quarters they fought back and outscored the Bears 23-3. During play, they forced five turnovers and scored three field goals. In addition, Kelvin Haydene executed a 56-yard inception return leading to a touchdown.

Peyton Manning, the Colt’s quarterback, was named the MVP, having achieved a passer rating of 81.8, 25 of 38 passes, a touchdown, and an interception.

The Pepsi Smash Super Bowl Bash ran from the Thursday to Friday of Super Bowl week and featured two concerts that included performances from John Legend, Kanye West, Fergie, and Aventura.

The hotly anticipated annual Playboy party was held at the American Airlines arena, home to Miami Heat. Celebrity guests included Johnny Knoxville, Alyssa Milano, and Jeremy Piven.

Penthouse’s annual event, which was held at the South Beach nightclub mansion did not disappoint, with Snoop Dogg taking to the stage. Guests paid over a $1000 each to attend the party.

Venus and Serena Williams hosted a Club Sports Illustrated party, which featured a performance from Wyclef Jean.
