Beyonce Super Bowl Halftime Show

WHAT DID YOU MISS IN 2013?

The bid to host the 2013 Super Bowl, Super Bowl XLVII, was a hotly contested competition between three runners:

• New Orleans (Mercedes-Benz Superdome)
• Glendale, Arizona (University of Phoenix Stadium)
• Miami Gardens, (Sun Life Stadium)

The league announced that New Orleans would be the hosts of the 2013 Super Bowl following their Spring Ownership Meetings in Florida in 2009. New Orleans had a long established history of hosting the Super Bowl; in fact, the 2013 Super Bowl was the city’s 10th Super Bowl. It was also a momentous occasion for New Orleans because it marked the first major event to be held in the Superdome since Hurricane Katrina destroyed the city in 2005.

The 2013 Super Bowl was played on February 3, 2013, between AFC champions the Baltimore Ravens and the NFL champions the San Francisco 49ers. The Ravens secured a lead of 28-6 by the third quarter before a sudden power outage at the Superdome put play on hold for 34 minutes. When play resumed, the 49ers made a sudden comeback, scoring 17 third-quarter points to come back against the Ravens in a blaze of glory. In the closing moments of the game, sensing the title may be about to slip from their grasp, the Ravens took an intentional safety, leaving just four seconds on the clock.

Sadly, it was not to be for the San Francisco 49ers, who suffered their first defeat in Super Bowl history with a score of 31 versus the Raven’s 34.

Joe Flacco was the Baltimore Ravens was named the most valuable player.

New Orleans has a earned itself a reputation for being a city of partying and this certainly held true during the 2013 Super Bowl weekend. Celebrity hosts of the Laces and Leather party included the likes of Jamie Chung, Brooklyn Decker and Josh Henderson; Snoop Dogg and Anna Feris got hot under the collar at the Tabasco Original Hot Sauce Playmates party; Cirque USA aerial artists wowed the crowd at an open Belvedere bar; and Alec Baldwin hit the red carpet at the 2nd Annual NFL Honors held at Mahalia Jackson Theater.

But perhaps the hottest event in town that year was the DIRECTV’s Super Saturday party, which that was attended by John Legend, Chrissy Teigen, Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, and Jay-Z.

Elsewhere, the Celebrity Beach Bowl was played between a host of famous names including Snoop Dogg, Erin Andrews, Jesse Williams, and Jenny McCarthy
